When a residential remodel permit may apply
The City of Grand Rapids says residential remodeling work may require a building permit, and its renovation guidance notes that work involving walls, wiring, piping, ductwork, or HVAC equipment often needs permits.
Plans are part of the review
The City’s residential remodel permit page states that uploaded plans are required and should show the project location, size, and proposed work. The review process may require revisions if information is missing or incorrect.
Specialty permits can be separate
Electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits may be required in addition to a building permit. A basement bathroom, new circuits, or HVAC changes can therefore involve more than one permit category.
