Know what you are insulating against
Basement walls are in contact with soil for much of their height, which creates different temperature and moisture conditions than above-grade walls.
Avoid trapping an unresolved problem
Insulation and wall finishes should follow moisture evaluation. Closing a damp wall without addressing the source can make future problems harder to see.
Coordinate with framing and utilities
The insulation strategy affects framing depth, electrical boxes, plumbing routes, fire blocking, and usable floor area.
